The Children's Program of Hospice Atlanta

The Children’s Program of Hospice Atlanta cares for children of all ages, from neonates to adolescents, with all types of life-limiting illnesses: hereditary and congenital conditions and syndromes as well as acquired illnesses. Our program includes perinatal services for parents of yet unborn children with diagnosed, life-limiting illnesses and includes care of the child after birth. We believe every family facing this difficult situation needs to be together whenever possible. Our team of specialized pediatric professionals understands this and is committed to supporting the entire family. We help terminally ill children live and be cared for at home or, if required, at the Hospice Atlanta Center.

Our Pediatric Medical Director, specially-trained pediatric nurses, social workers, chaplains and volunteers work together as a team, meeting regularly to discuss each child’s individualized plan of care. All are dedicated to helping families get through the difficult times that accompany a child’s terminal illness.

Childrens Programs

Jake was born with a rare and incurable disorder that caused blindness, multiple neurological problems and severe muscle weakness, yet he was able to blow kisses to his hospice nurse whenever she visited him at home. “She was a real blessing,” says his mother. A Hospice Atlanta social worker helped Jake’s sister talk to her school friends about Jake, and our chaplain arranged to have him baptized at home. Jake died when he was six years old, surrounded by his loving family and supported by the Hospice Atlanta team.
